25th Annual Gemini Awards Conclude With Star-Studded Broadcast Gala Hosted by Cory Monteith

The 25th Annual Gemini Awards concluded its silver anniversary celebration this evening with a black-tie Broadcast Gala at Toronto’s historic Winter Garden Theatre. Hosted by Glee’s Cory Monteith, a total of 19 awards were presented, including those for Best Comedy Program or Series and Best Dramatic Series. The awards gala, broadcast on Global and Showcase, featured a moving tribute to Degrassi, and an unforgettable performance by Elvis Costello with Feist, Ron Sexsmith, Kendel Carson, and Barry Bales.

TORONTO, August 31, 2010 - In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Gemini Awards, Canadians can take a nostalgic look back at the greatest homegrown programs from the last 25 years and vote for their favourite online.

Beginning Wednesday September 15, TV lovers can make their selection from a list of programs housed on a new, interactive website: www.favetvshow.ca. Compiled by a group of seasoned television critics, these shows were shortlisted from all series broadcast during 1985 - 2010 inclusive.

From timeless family classic Anne of Green Gables to quirky comedy Trailer Park Boys, the final list encompasses drama, comedy, reality and lifestyle genres. The complete list of the top 25 shows will be found at www.favetvshow.ca.

Celebrating 25 years of Canadian television, www.favetvshow.ca features clips, photos and series information on the selected programs. Viewers can either vote online, tweet their favourite show on Twitter, or comment via Facebook - every vote counts.

Nominations for the 25th Annual Gemini Awards Announced

TORONTO, August 31, 2010 - The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce the nominations for the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the year's best in Canadian English-language television. This year's celebrations will be held in Toronto over three nights in November. The Industry Gala Presentations will take place on Tuesday November 2nd and Wednesday November 3rd at the Kool Haus Entertainment Complex; the Broadcast Gala will take place on Saturday November 13th at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and will be broadcast live-to-tape on Global and Showcase.

Toronto, October 18, 2010 -- Canwest and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television have announced that Glee star Cory Monteith will host the 25th Annual Gemini Awards. Broadcast live on Saturday, November 13 - 8pm on Global and Showcase from Toronto's historic Winter Garden Theatre, the Awards honour the highest achievements in the television industry. This year marks a significant milestone as the Geminis commemorate their silver anniversary.

These awards will be presented at the 25th Annual Gemini Awards Industry Galas, taking place November 2nd and 3rd at the Kool Haus Entertainment Complex, and at the Broadcast Gala, taking place November 13th at the historic Winter Garden Theatre.

Presenters Announced For The 25th Annual Gemini Awards Gala

Toronto, ON - October 28, 2010 - Hot on the heels of the announcement revealing Glee's Cory Monteith as host of the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, Global and Showcase. along with the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television proudly welcome a robust lineup of A-list talent eager to celebrate the nominees.

The special presenters confirmed to date include Grace Park from this fall's #1 new series, Hawaii Five-0; the cast of the #1 new Canadian drama series, Rookie Blue with Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Enuka Okuma, Charlotte Sullivan and Travis Milne; Dan For Mayor's Fred Ewanuick; Republic of Doyle's Allan Hawco; Flashpoint's Enrico Colantoni; Lost Girl's Anna Silk; and Canada's ice dance champions from the 2010 Winter Olympics, Gold Medalists Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.

Polka Dot Door and The NewMusic to receive special recognition at the 25th Annual Gemini Awards

The Academy is pleased to introduce the MasterWorks program at the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, a special tribute founded by the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust (AV Trust) in 2000 to honour culturally significant works. This year's Television honourees - Polka Dot Door and The NewMusic - will be recognized at the upcoming Industry Galas taking place Tuesday, November 2nd and Wednesday, November 3rd.

"We are proud to continue the AV Trust's tradition of paying tribute to programming that has resonated with Canadians over the years," said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. "Both of this year's MasterWorks honourees have inspired generations of viewers and made a lasting impression on the television industry."

2010 Gemini Awards Presented in Documentary, Lifestyle, News, and Sports Categories

The year's best in Documentary, Lifestyle, News, and Sports programming were celebrated tonight at the first of two Gemini Awards Industry Galas. Hosted by actor Ennis Esmer (The Listener, Wipeout Canada), a total of 50 awards were presented as well as the Canada Award, the Gemini Humanitarian Award, and the inaugural Technical Achievement in Digital Media Special Award. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television also paid tribute to 2010 MasterWorks Television Honouree The NewMusic.

Winners in Drama, Children's and Youth, Comedy, and Variety categories will be announced on Wednesday, November 3rd. The 25th Annual Gemini Awards will conclude with the Broadcast Gala on Saturday, November 13th at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Hosted by Glee's Cory Monteith, the event will be broadcast on Global and Showcase at 8pm.

Gemini Award winners in the Drama, Children's and Youth, Comedy, and Variety categories were announced tonight at the second of two Industry Galas. Hosted by actor and director Art Hindle (E.N.G., Paradise Falls), a total of 38 awards were presented as well as the Margaret Collier Award and the Academy Achievement Award. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television also paid tribute to 2010 MasterWorks Television Honouree Polka Dot Door.

Winners in Documentary, Lifestyle, News, and Sports categories were announced on Tuesday, November 2nd. The 25th Annual Gemini Awards will conclude with the Broadcast Gala on Saturday, November 13th at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Hosted by Glee's Cory Monteith, the event will be broadcast on Global and Showcase at 8pm.

25th Annual Gemini Awards Gala to Feature Musical Performance by Elvis Costello with Feist, Ron Sexsmith, Kendel Carson, and Barry Bales plus a Special Tribute to Degrassi

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, Global, and Showcase are thrilled to announce that music icon Elvis Costello (Gemini25 nominee for Best Talk Series, Spectacle: Elvis Costello With...) will be performing with Juno award-winning singer-songwriters Feist, Ron Sexsmith, fiddling sensation Kendel Carson, and renowned bassist Barry Bales at the 25th Annual Gemini Awards Broadcast Gala on Saturday, November 13, 2010. The annual celebration will air nationwide on Global and Showcase at 8pm.

The gala awards presentation will also pay a Special Tribute to Degrassi and will include appearances by Degrassi alumni including Nina Dobrev, Stefan Brogren, Amanda Stepto, Adamo Ruggiero, Cassie Steele, Lauren Collins, and Melinda Shankar.
